For a generation now, most Westerners have been getting poorer, less free and less educated. The only increasing parameter has been life expectancy, but even that has already begun to decline.
This is a long-term trend in civilization, regardless of who is currently in power and which ideology is currently in vogue. It includes the fact that the deterioration is accelerating. We are getting poorer faster and faster, and we are falling into primitivism faster and faster.
What difference does the Green Deal make? Actually, nothing. Deindustrialization was going on before it, it’s going on after it. It was accelerating before it, it’s accelerating after it.
The only thing that has changed is that there is finally a name for the enemy. There is something to protest against. There is something to disturb. There is something to argue about. We feel better now.
Except it’s not gonna work. Simply repealing the Green Deal will change little or nothing.
