If Hamas is not defeated by Israel, it will be our allies’ turn, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said, referring to the European states in particular. I am afraid that in reality it is more complicated than that.

If Hamas is destroyed, its fighters will flee, and we can count on no Arab country to give them asylum. Europe can look forward to them, and it will be difficult for them to switch to growing vegetables.

And if Hamas succeeds, it will be an encouragement to all the other radicals who are in contact with the Western world (and many of today’s relative moderates will become radicals).

In either case, it is high time for European countries to prepare intensively for a raid. But are European countries capable of doing so? I am not sure that articles about Hamas running out of ammunition next week will be enough.
