On liberal faith

May 16, 2025

So far, it seems that life is better in all respects in countries where political power clearly prevails over financial power. However, it is important to bear in mind that this is only our current experience, and we should not consider it to be a universal law just yet.

From another perspective, everything that has been written here is a completely natural part of the current political debate. Regimes in which bankers control politicians are referred to as ‘liberal’. Liberal state, liberal democracy, liberal conditions, and so on. Conversely, if the financial sector subjugates political power, we speak of an illiberal regime.

Why are liberal conditions considered so desirable that we are willing to wage war for them? It is because of the irrational belief that ordinary people live more freely and prosperously if banks rule. This belief is not based on any real knowledge and has never been precisely formulated. Nevertheless, it is widely shared — not only by supporters of the five-party coalition in our country, but also by the University of Economics, the Václav Klaus Institute, Motorists Party, organisers of conservative counter-revolutions, the Freedom Party and various other groups. When they attack liberalism, they are attacking the specific consequences of banking domination. However, they do not question the principle itself.

This belief is more destructive than any form of neo-Marxism. Nevertheless, it remains unshakable for the time being.
