There is growing talk of a gradual removal or relocation of the Palestinians. My guess is that it will not ultimately happen. In any case, however, it offers an excellent test of what really motivates those of our fellow citizens who march around with Palestinian flags or otherwise denounce the genocide. Do they genuinely feel compassion for the people trapped in Gaza, or is that merely a cover for primitive, brutal antisemitism?
If it is compassion, they will pay close attention to what exactly this forced relocation is supposed to entail. If people are being sent to something resembling a Siberian labor camp, they will protest. But if they are relocated somewhere with an acceptable climate, a reasonable standard of living, and jobs, then they will surely be delighted. Every one of the people they care so deeply about will gain a new homeland and find themselves in conditions incomparably better than those they face today, or could expect under Hamas rule.
If, on the other hand, they really regard Palestinians merely as machines for killing Jews, and their true objective is another Auschwitz, then they will protest from the very beginning.
In fact, it may prove interesting even for them, since people routinely conceal their true motivations from themselves.
So let us wait a few weeks and see.
